Who can join Haverfordwest Badminton Club?
Everyone is welcome!
Whether you're a complete beginner, returning to badminton after taking a break, or an experienced player, we welcome players of all ages and abilities.
We welcome juniors to the club. For our younger juniors to the club, we ask that a parent or responsible adult remains at the session to support them. Before a junior takes part in the club we ask for the junior consent form to be completed.
There's no need to be an expert - just come along, have a go and enjoy playing badminton with us!
There's no need to contact us before coming along - just turn up and have a go!
Our friendly club members will happy to welcome you and get you settled in. If you do have a query then you can contact us via our Facebook page or through our form on our website.
What does club night look like?
We play every Thursday 6-8pm at Pembrokeshire Sports Village, Haverfordwest High School.
You don't need to attend every week, and you don't have to stay for the full two hours. Come along when you can and play for as long as you'd like.
Your first session is free, so you can come along, have a go and see if the club is for you.
There's a payment desk at the entrance to the sports hall, usually looked after by one of our lovely committee members. They will be happy to welcome you and answer any questions.
Players generally organise their own games, but if you're new or unsure what to do, simply grab someone and ask. There are normally a few committee members in attendance who can also support. We're a friendly club and are happy to help you get involved.
Court safety
If you're off court or walking towards a court, please be mindful of the players on the active courts.
What if I'm nervous about coming for the first time?
Don't be nervous!
We know that walking into a new club can feel daunting, especially if you're coming on your own but we are a friendly and welcoming club and we're always happy to see new faces.
Our committee members are there to welcome you, answer any questions and help you get settled in.
If you're feeling a little nervous about coming on your own, why not bring a friend or come along as a group?
Everyone has to be new once, so just come along, have a go and enjoy yourself!
How much does it cost?
Our current session prices are:
Adult members: £8
Adult non-members: £9
Juniors £6
Membership costs £20 per year
Membership is encouraged as it provides a number of benefits, including Badminton Wales insurance, reduced cost restringing and lower session costs if you attend 20 or more sessions in a year.

Do I have to come every week?
Not at all!
There's no requirement to attend every Thursday. Come along whenever you're available and play for as much or as little of the session as you like.
What do I need to bring?
You will need comfortable clothing, sports hall appropriate non marking trainers, a drink and towel.
We have rackets you can borrow and provide shuttles for the session.
We play with feather shuttles of club standard (usually Yehlex Tournament) however we also have plastics available for players who wish to play with more ethical shuttles. If you want to learn how the feather shuttles are manufactured there are videos on YouTube.
Can I get help with my game?
Absolutely! While our club sessions are mainly based around playing games, there are coaches available who can offer focused skill sessions on particular shots, advice and help is also available during game play. Coaching availability is often shared on the club's WhatsApp group that you will be invited to after attending club.
You can also learn a huge amount from other club members. We have players of all abilities and many are more than happy to give advice or have a hit with you. If you're looking for help just ask a coach or speak to one of our committee members and we can point you in the right direction.
Do you hold competitions?
We try to run club competitions throughout the year, some of these are in club and some are Pembrokeshire wide. The club competitions are friendly and fun. For the last three years we have hosted the Badminton Wales, West Wales Graded featuring some of the best players from across Wales too.
